The
Winter Fairy brings the gift of the snowflake. She sprinkles her secret beauty throughout the evening sky, providing comfort
to all who sleep in the landscapes of winter.
"Winter's Flight is the fourth in
the Fairies of the Four Seasons cycle. I completed a fairy painting named Frost Fairy's Nest in 2003. The Fairy in that painting
was nude. Since I wanted to put all four fairies into a single frame, I decided to paint a new fairy wearing a dress. Like
my Tiger Lilly fairy, I had painted separate elements for the Frost Fairy's Nest, background landscape, fairy, and foreground.
The pine cones were challenging to paint using watercolors. The painting was composed in Photoshop, adding snowflakes and
glow. The new version was retitled."
