For
ages life has coursed through roots, hardening trunk,
spreading branches and shaping leaves. Now the sun sets,
as death creeps in, and the
cycle of life begins again.
"The idea for this painting came to me after my father died. I was thinking how sometimes
death slowly steals upon people. The painting depicts a tree in the sunset of it's life. The face on the tree signifies
the living part of the tree, and the skull signifies death that is slowly creeping up it's trunk. People often label my art
as whimsical, but some of my paintings are quite serious, and I consider them as symbolic. This has been my most popular painting
since I completed it."
