"My inspiration for the Fire Lord
came from a dragon sketch I had done a number of years earlier. It was my favorite of the many dragons I had drawn over the
years, and so was the natural choice for my first dragon painting. I painted several fairies with butterfly wings before the
Fire Lord, and liked the idea of using a butterfly pattern on the wings of the dragon."
