One morning Elijah awoke with a start.
Birds darted over his head,
animals ran up and over his hill, and passed out of sight behind
him. A bright fire blazed in
the forest before him. The smell of
smoke and ash was in the air. Elijah trembled and
moaned.
"This was the second drawing in a tree portrait series I had planned to do. It was the first
painting I completed in the series. After I finished the drawing for this painting, I either lost inspiration for the series
or just ran out of good ideas. This was my favorite of the two drawings I did, and I even wrote a short children's story to
go along with it. The only place you actually see the fire is reflected in Elijah's eyes."
