The very first time I picked up
a pencil
I was amazed that an image could be created with a simple
line. Once I discovered the world of painting, the ability
to put
color to my sketches, I was hooked. The art of self-expression
lies
within a person’s imagination.
As a
young
boy I loved collecting and reading comic books. I would spend
hours drawing my own comics. In high school I began reading
science
fiction and fantasy novels. My favorite artist was Frank
Frazetta and my favorite author was J.R.R. Tolkien.
For
the past 25 years I have been working in the art field. My
experiences have
ranged from teaching Photoshop classes, to portrait work,
free-lance
illustration, logo design, and computer designs for corporations.
Recently I began creating my own paintings.
My
medium of choice is watercolor.
I visualize an image in my mind, and then before the image
is lost I sketch it on paper. After the sketch
is transferred
to watercolor board, I begin painting the background using
a variety of techniques from washes to airbrush.
The focal
points of my paintings are created using a series of layers,
working from transparent to opaque.
The
finished painting is not
an exact
duplication of the original vision. Instead it is an expression,
a representation of the idea. My paintings
celebrate
the fantastic
images of my imagination.
I
am drawn to the
secret
places
of nature’s beauty. It is
through
these places that I reveal the magical creatures that inhabit
them. Within my imagination are visions that can only
be expressed
through my art.
